Stocks Ended at Record Highs

U.S. stocks ended at record highs on Friday and booked healthy gains for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 78.13 points, or 0.28%, to 28,455.09. The S&P 500 advanced 15.85 points, or 0.49%, to 3,221.22. The Nasdaq Composite gained 37.74 points, or 0.42%, to 8,924.96. For the week, Dow was up 1.1%, S&P 500 added 1.7% and Nasdaq gained 2.2%.

Oil futures finished sharply lower Friday, with declines accelerating after a weekly report on drilling rigs showed a big increase. West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery fell 74 cents, or 1.2%, to settle at $60.44 a barrel and gained 0.8% for the week. February Brent crude shed 40 cents, or 0.6%, to end at $66.14 a barrel and gained 1.4% for the week.

Johnson and Johnson (JNJ) said late Friday it is acquiring Taris Biomedical LLC, a privately owned biotech company focusing on a drug-delivery device for the treatment of bladder diseases, including cancer.
