Stocks Edged Lower at Open amid Uncertainty over U.S.-China Trade Deal

U.S. stocks edged lower at open on Friday amid uncertainty over the state of U.S.-China trade talks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately fell 10.27 points, or 0.04%, to 28,121.78. The S&P 500 was down 2.62 points, or 0.08%, to 3,165.95. The Nasdaq Composite were up 2.88 points, or 0.03%, to 8,720.19.

Oil futures jumped more than 1%, hitting a three-month high intraday Friday as progress toward a partial U.S.-China trade deal reignited hope that a major headwind to crude demand was receding. West Texas Intermediate crude for January delivery rose 65 cents, or 1.1%, to $59.82 a barrel. February Brent crude gained 93 cents, or 1.4%, to trade at $65.09 a barrel.
