Stocks Ended Strong Week with Slight Moves

U.S. stocks closed out a strong week with slight moves on Friday, as U.S. President Donald Trump gave a speech blasting high drug prices but avoided taking aggressive measures to cut them. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 91.64 points, or 0.37%, to 24,831.17. The S&P 500 gained 4.65 points, or 0.17%, to 2,727.72. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.09 points, or 0.03%, to 7,402.88. For the week, the Dow rose 2.3%, the S&P rose 2.4% and the Nasdaq rose 2.7%.

Oil prices pulled back from 3 ½-year highs on Friday , but marked a second weekly climb in a row, driven by uncertainty over how much oil the global market will lose following the U.S. decision to reimpose sanctions on OPEC member Iran. June West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 66 cents, or 0.9%, to settle at $70.70 a barrel. The contract logged a roughly 1.4% weekly climb. July Brent crude lost 35 cents, or nearly 0.5%, to $77.12 a barrel. For the week, the contract climbed about 3%.

President Donald Trump on Friday laid out his plan to curb prescription drug price rises and talked to automotive executives about loosening mileage standards.
