Stocks Pull Back After Two-day Gain

U.S. stocks opened lower on Tuesday as investors were waiting for a monthly report on job openings for clues to the pace of economic recovery in the U.S. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately lost 6.14 points, or 0.04%, to 16,563.84. The S&P 500 was off 0.75 point, or 0.04%, to 1,936.17. The Nasdaq Composite was down 2.50 points, or 0.06%, to 4,398.83.

Shares of Intercept Pharmaceuticals Inc. soared in premarket trading Tuesday, a day after the drug developer said its most advanced candidate performed better than a placebo in a mid-stage study of patients with a form of chronic liver disease.

Atlantic City’s Revel Casino Hotel will shut down next month after failing to find a buyer in bankruptcy court, company officials announced Tuesday.

The Food and Drug Administration on Monday approved a DNA test to screen for colon cancer in people with a lower risk of developing the disease, the first such test of its kind to be cleared by U.S. regulators.
