Stocks Ended Slightly Higher, but Suffered Weekly Losses

U.S. stocks ended slightly higher on Friday, but suffered their biggest weekly loss since March as investors assessed prospects for an economic recovery and rising U.S.-China trade tensions. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 60.08 points, or 0.25%, to 23,685.42. The S&P 500 added 11.20 points, or 0.39%, to 2,863.70. The Nasdaq Composite gained 70.84 points, or 0.79%, to 9,014.56. For the week, the Dow saw a 2.7% decline, the S&P 500 lost 2.3% and the Nasdaq fell 1.2%.

Oil futures rose Friday, with the U.S. benchmark posting a weekly gain of 19%, finding support from production cuts by major oil producers and early signs of a recovery in demand for crude with some business lockdowns globally being lifted. West Texas Intermediate crude for June delivery rose $1.87, or 6.8%, to settle at $29.43 barrel, logged a weekly gain of 19%. July Brent crude rose $1.37, or 4.4%, at $32.50 a barrel, for a 4.9% weekly rise.
