Stocks Ended Higher with Weekly Slump

U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday, but leaving equity benchmarks with the steepest weekly slump since March. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 287.16 points, or 1.15%, to 25,339.99. The S&P 500 picked up 38.76 points, or 1.42%, to 2,767.13. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 167.83 points, or 2.29%, to 7,496.89. For the week, the Dow fell 4.2%, the S&P fell 4.1%, and the Nasdaq slipped 3.7%.

Prices for the U.S. oil benchmark edged higher Friday as investors assessed the next leg of a volatile stock market, but signs of rising crude supplies contributed to an overall weekly loss of 4%.November West Texas Intermediate crude rose 37 cents, or 0.5%, to settle at $71.34 a barrel. It suffered a weekly loss about 4%. The global benchmark, Brent crude for December delivery added 17 cents, or 0.2%, to $80.43 a barrel. It posted a weekly decline of roughly 4.4%.
