Stocks Were Mixed in Early Trading

U.S stocks opened slightly higher and turned mixed in early trading on Monday in the first session of 2021. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately fell 51.50 points, or 0.17%, to 30,554.98. The S&P 500 edge up 0.03 point, to 3,756.10. The Nasdaq Composite gained 14.53 points, or 0.11%, to 12,902.82.

Oil swung between gains and losses ahead of an OPEC+ meeting to decide whether the group can keep lifting output as a surging virus threatens the global energy demand recovery. West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery fell 30 cents, or 0.6%, to $48.22 a barrel. March Brent crude was down 14 cents, or 0.3%, at $51.66 a barrel.

Moderna, Inc. (MRNA) today provided a supply update for the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, increasing its base-case global production estimate from 500 to 600 million doses for 2021. Moderna said it is continuing to invest and add staff to build up to potentially 1 billion doses for 2021.
