Stocks Ended at Records to Book Weekly Gains

U.S. stocks ended at record highs on Friday after a worse-than-expected jobs report in December bolstered expectations for further fiscal stimulus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 56.84 points, or 0.18%, to 31,097.97. The S&P 500 gained 20.89 points, or 0.55%, to 3,824.68. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 134.50 points, or 1.03%, to 13,201.98. For the week, the Dow rose 1.6%, the S&P 500 gained 1.8% and the Nasdaq climbed 2.4%.

Oil futures rose Friday, with prices up by roughly 8% for the week in large part due to Saudi Arabia’s decision to unilaterally cut crude output. West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery rose $1.41, or 2.8%, to settle at $52.24 a barrel. March Brent crude climbed $1.61, or 3%, at $55.99 a barrel.
