Stocks Ended Mixed after Jobless Claims Improved

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Wednesday, after jobless claims improve more than expected. The Dow Jones Industrial rose 114.32 points, or 0.38%, to 30,129.83. The S&P 500 added 2.75 points, or 0.07%, to 3,690.01. The Nasdaq Composite fell 36.80 points, or 0.29%, to 12,771.11.

Crude-oil futures closed sharply higher Wednesday as a report from the Energy Information Administration showed a drop in U.S. inventories, and favorable geopolitical developments appeared to clear possible roadblocks to further demand for energy assets. West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery closed up $1.10, or 2.3%, at $48.12 a barrel. February Brent crude added $1.12, or 2.2%, to settle at $51.20 a barrel.
