Stocks Opened Higher, Extending Vaccine Rally

U.S. stocks opened sharply higher on Tuesday, extending a rally based on expectations that the deployment of a COVID-19 vaccine was imminent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 289.24 points, or 0.98%, to 29,880.51. The S&P 500 was up 20.97 points, or 0.59%, to 3,598.56. The Nasdaq Composite added 8.86 points, or 0.07%, to 11,889.49.

The cost of buying a house rose sharply again in September and by one measure hit a six-year high , a Case-Shiller index showed, signaling that prospective buyers are unlikely to find better deals any time soon. A measure of home prices in 20 large cities rose at a 6.6% yearly pace in October, according to the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller price index. That’s up from 5.3% in the prior month.
