Stocks mixed as Vaccine Euphoria Abated

U.S. stocks opened mixed on Tuesday, with the tech shares remaining under pressure, as investors reined in an initial wave of optimism over a promising vaccine candidate. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 72.96 points, or 0.25%, to 29,230.93. The S&P 500 was down 16.20 points, or 0.46%, to 3,534.30. The Nasdaq Composite fell 128.31 points, or 1.10%, to 11,585.47.

Oil futures rose Tuesday, boosted by optimism over prospects for a COVID-19 vaccine as the continued spread of the disease undercuts fuel demand. West Texas Intermediate crude for December delivery rose 18 cents, or 0.4%, to $40.47 a barrel. January Brent crude was up 35 cents, or 0.8%, at $42.75 a barrel.
