Stocks Opened Higher as Tech Regained Ground

U.S. stocks opened higher on Wednesday, recovering some losses after selloff, with technology stocks in the lead. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately advanced 239.51 points, or 0.87%, to 27,740.40. The S&P 500 rose 41.79 points, or 1.25%, to 3,373.63. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 180.82 points, or 1.67%, to 11,028.51.

Oil futures bounced early Wednesday, regaining some of the ground lost in a brutal selloff in the previous session. West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery rose 41 cents, or 1.1%, to $37.17 a barrel. November Brent crude rose 20 cents, or 0.5%, to $39.98 a barrel.

AstraZeneca, the U.K.-based pharmaceuticals giant, said on Tuesday that it would pause the clinical trial of the coronavirus vaccine it is developing with the University of Oxford after a British subject became ill.
