Stocks Opened Higher after First Presidential Debate

U.S. stocks opened Higher on Wednesday as investors considered the aftermath of a combative first presidential debate and focused on brighter economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 229.72 points, or 0.84%, to 27,682.38. The S&P 500 gained 18.91 points, or 0.57%, to 3,354.38. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 67.84 points, or 0.61%, to 11,153.09.

Crude oil prices were headed lower on Wednesday for a second consecutive session as concerns persist about the global economic outlook and its impact on demand. West Texas Intermediate crude for November delivery were down 15 cents, or 0.4%, at $39.14 a barrel. Front-month November Brent traded 26 cents, or 0.6%, lower at $41.30 a barrel.

US private employers added back a greater than expected 749,000 payrolls in September, according to ADP’s closely watched monthly private jobs report.
