Stocks Ended Rough Week on a Down Note

U.S. stocks tumbled on Friday, closing out a rocky week on a down note as big tech stocks extend a weeklong sell-off. At close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell around 244.56 points, or 0.88%, to 27,657.42. The S&P 500 lost 37.54 points, or 1.12%, to 3,319.47. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 116.99 points, or 1.07%, to 10,793.28. For the week, the Dow fell less than 0.1%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq each gave up 0.6%.

Oil futures split paths for the session on Friday, with U.S. prices up modestly and global prices slightly lower but both benchmarks logging their biggest weekly gain since June after major oil producers pledged their full commitment to output cuts. West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery tacked on 14 cents, or 0.3%, to settle at $41.11 a barrel. However, November Brent crude lost 15 cents, or nearly 0.4% at $43.15 a barrel. For the week, WTI was up 10.1%. Brent added 8.3%.
