Stocks Ended Lower Ahead of First Presidential Debate

U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday as investors consider stimulus proposal and await first presidential debate. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 131.40 points, or 0.48%, to 27,452.66. The S&P 500 was down 16.13 points, or 0.48%, to 3,335.47. The Nasdaq Composite declined 32.28 points, or 0.29%, to 11,085.25.

Oil futures fell sharply on Tuesday, sending U.S. and global benchmark crude prices to their lowest finish in two weeks. West Texas Intermediate crude for November delivery fell $1.31, or 3.2%, to settle at $39.29 a barrel. Front-month November Brent lost $1.40, or 3.3%, to end at $41.03 a barrel.
