Stocks Ended Higher with Nasdaq Taking the Lead

U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq posting back-to-back sessions of gains, as tech stocks continued to recover last week’s losses. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 2.27 points, or 0.01%, to 27,995.60. The S&P 500 gained 17.66 points, or 0.52%, to 3,401.20. The Nasdaq Composite rose 133.67 points, or 1.21%, to 11,190.32.

Oil futures got a lift Tuesday as Hurricane Sally neared landfall, forcing the shutdown of more than a quarter of offshore Gulf of Mexico crude production and a number of refineries. West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery rose $1.02, or 2.7%, to settle at $38.28 a barrel, while November Brent crude rose 92 cents, or 2.3%, to $40.53 a barrel.

Pfizer Inc said on Tuesday patients were showing mild-to-moderate tolerability to either the company’s experimental coronavirus vaccine or a placebo in an ongoing late-stage study.
