Stocks Opened Mixed, Oil Futures Rose

U.S. stocks opened mixed on Monday, as Wall Street attempts to close out a strong performance in August. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately fell 121.38 points, or 0.42%, to 28,532.49. The S&P 500 retreated 3.85 points, or 0.11%, to 3,504.16. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 7.67 points, or 0.07%, to 11,703.30.

Oil futures rose Monday, on track to end a positive August on an upbeat note after data showed a stronger-than-expected pickup in China’s service sector. West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery rose 32 cents, or 0.7%, to $43.29 a barrel. November Brent crude was 37 cents higher, a gain of 0.8%, at $46.18 a barrel.
