Stocks Ended Mixed Friday and Booked Weekly Gains

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Friday and booked weekly gains, as investors considered mixed new economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 34.30 points, or 0.12%, to 27,931.02. The S&P 500 edged lower 0.58 point, or 0.02%, to 3,372.85. The Nasdaq Composite fell 23.20 points, or 0.21%, to 11,019.30. For the week, the Dow gained 1.8%, the S&P 500 rose 0.6% and the Nasdaq added 0.1%.

Oil futures finished lower Friday, with pressure attributed in part to downbeat global demand forecasts from major organizations this week, but prices still ended the week higher following declines in U.S. supplies. West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery fell 23 cents, or 0.5%, to settle at $42.01 a barrel, while October Brent crude lost 16 cents, or 0.4%, at $44.80 a barrel.
For the week, WTI ended 1.9% higher, while Brent gained 0.9%.
