Stocks Ended Mixed as Tech Shares Declined

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Monday, with Nasdaq in the red as tech shares declined. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 357.94 points, or 1.30%, to 27,791.44. The S&P 500 rose 9.19 points, or 0.27%, to 3,360.47. The Nasdaq Composite declined 42.64 points, or 0.39%, to 10,968.36.

Oil futures ended higher Monday, getting a lift from optimistic remarks about demand from the chief executive of the world’s largest oil company and positive data out of China. West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery rose 72 cents, or 1.8%, to close at $41.94 a barrel, while October Brent crude gained 59 cents, or 1.3%, to finish at $44.99 a barrel.

U.S. President Donald Trump still wants to see coronavirus aid legislation pass that would include stimulus payments to individuals and school funding, the White House said on Monday after talks with congressional Democrats collapsed last week.
