Stocks Ended Higher, Nasdaq Hit at Record High

U.S. stocks ended higher on Thursday, with the Nasdaq Composite hitting a new all-time high, as investors shook off jobless claims spike. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 46.85 points, 0.17%, to 27,739.73. The S&P 500 added 10.66 points, or 0.32%, to 3,385.51. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 118.49 points, or 1.06%, to 11,264.95.

Oil futures ended lower Thursday, after a rise in weekly jobless claims added to concerns about the outlook for demand already shaken by minutes of the Federal Reserve’s last meeting. West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery declined 35 cents, or 0.8%, to finish at $42.58 a barrel. October Brent crude finished down 47 cents, or 1%, at $44.90 a barrel.
