Stocks Ended Mostly Lower, Nasdaq Set Record High

U.S. stocks ended mostly lower on Thursday, though tech shares continued to rally, as fears over the economic outlook following an increase in coronavirus cases resurged. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 361.19 points, or 1.39%, to 25,706.09. The S&P 500 lost 17.89 points, or 0.56%, to 3,152.05. The Nasdaq Composite gained 55.25 points, or 0.53%, to 10,547.75, marking a new record close.

Oil futures fell on Thursday, as commodity traders contended with rising cases of coronavirus in the U.S. and some other countries that may threaten to unsettle demand for crude. August West Texas Intermediate crude fell by $1.28, or 3.1%, to settle at $39.62 a barrel. Brent oil for September lost 94 cents, or 2.2%, at $42.35 a barrel.
