Stocks Ended Higher, Oil Advanced for a Fifth straight Session

U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday, as investors monitored the easing of restrictions on businesses in the U.S. and Europe. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 133.33 points, or 0.56%, to 23,883.09. The S&P 500 advanced 25.70 points, or 0.90%, to 2,868.44. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 98.41 points, or 1.13%, to 8,809.12.

Oil futures ended sharply higher on Tuesday, with U.S. benchmark prices posting a fifth straight gain. West Texas Intermediate crude for June delivery rose $4.17, or 20.5%, to settle at $24.56 a barrel. July Brent crude added $3.77, or 13.9%, to $30.97 a barrel.

Activision Blizzard (ATVI), publisher of games like “Call of Duty” and “Overwatch,” reported its Q1 2020 earnings on Tuesday, with net bookings jumping 21% year-over-year. Revenue was $1.52 billion versus $1.33 billion expected. Earnings per share was $0.64 versus $0.59 expected.
