Stocks Opened Higher, Eyed on Pandemic Developments

U.S. stocks opened higher on Wednesday, as investors continued to monitor coronavirus developments. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 174.05 points, or 0.77%, to 22,827.91. The S&P 500 gained 17.86 points, or 0.67%, to 2,677.27. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 76.10 points, or 0.96%, to 7,963.36.

Oil prices headed sharply higher Wednesday, as investors grow hopeful that major oil producers will agree to production cuts, with U.S. supply data looming later in the session. West Texas Intermediate crude for May delivery rose 86 cents, or 3.6%, to $24.48 a barrel. June Brent crude rose 18 cents, or 0.6%, to $32.07 a barrel.
