Stocks Ended Lower in Volatile Session

U.S. stocks ended a volatile session in negative territory on Tuesday, as investors failed to nudge equity benchmarks to a second straight gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 26.13 points, or 0.12%, to 22,653.86. The S&P 500 was down 4.27 points, or 0.16%, to 2,659.41. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 25.98 points, or 0.33%, to 7,887.26.

Oil futures gave up earlier gains on Tuesday to settle lower, pressured after a U.S. government report lowered its U.S. and global benchmark price forecasts and outlook for domestic production for this year and next. West Texas Intermediate crude for May delivery fell by $2.45, or 9.4%, to settle at $23.63 a barrel. June Brent crude lost $1.18, or 3.6%, to $31.87 a barrel.
