Stocks Closed Higher Friday but Ended Week in the Red

U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday, as crude oil prices advanced after a headlong crash earlier this week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 260.01 points, or 1.11%, to 23,775.27. The S&P 500 added 38.94 points, or 1.39%, to 2,836.74. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 139.77 points, or 1.65%, to 8,634.52. For the week, the Dow lost 1.9%, the S&P 500 retreated 1.3% and the Nasdaq shed 0.2%.

Oil futures on Friday finished higher for a third straight session, but U.S. prices posted a record weekly loss of more than 32%. June West Texas Intermediate crude gained 44 cents, or 2.7%, to settle at $16.94 a barrel and saw a 32.3% decline for the week. June Brent crude rose 11 cents, or 0.5%, at $21.44 a barrel and declined 23.7% for the week.
