Stocks Opened Higher, Oil Prices Were Mixed

U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday, bouncing after the worst one-day drop since Black Monday of 1987. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 399.14 points, or 1.98%, to 20,587.66. The S&P 500 added 55.01 points, or 2.31%, to 2,441.14. The Nasdaq Composite gained 169.48 points, or 2.45%, to 7,074.07.

Oil futures were mixed Tuesday, a day after falling to a four-year low, with traders focused on expectations for a massive hit to demand from the global spread of COVID-19 and an increase in supply as Russia and Saudi Arabia engage in a global price war. West Texas Intermediate crude for April delivery was up 19 cents, or 0.7%, at $28.89 a barrel. May Brent crude was down 20 cents, or 0.7%, at $29.85 a barrel.
