Stocks Ended Sharply Higher, Dow Surged More than 1,100 Points

U.S. stocks surged on Wednesday, with the Dow ending more than 1,100 points higher in another volatile session for equities. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1,173.45 points, or 4.53%, to 27,090.86. The S&P 500 gained 126.75 points, or 4.22%, to 3,130.12. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 334.00 points, or 3.85%, to 9,018.09.

Oil futures settled lower on Wednesday as oil producers struggled to reach an agreement on production cuts in Vienna in an effort to stabilize prices on the heels of a demand slowdown sparked by the COVID-19 epidemic. April West Texas Intermediate crude fell 40 cents, or nearly 0.9%, to settle at $46.78 a barrel. May Brent crude shed 73 cents, or 1.4%, at $51.13 a barrel.
