Stocks Struggled in Early Trading on Trade Uncertainty

U.S. stocks struggled for direction in the early trading on Monday as investors considered mixed signals over progress in a U.S.-China interim trade agreement. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately fell 2.28 points, 0.01%, to 28,002.61. The S&P 500 was down 5.60 points, or 0.18%, to 3,114.86. The Nasdaq Composite declined 31.47 points, 0.37%, to 8,509.36.

Oil futures edged lower in quiet trade Monday. West Texas Intermediate crude for December delivery fell 9 cents, or 0.2%, to $57.63 a barrel, while January Brent crude was off 16 cents, or 0.3%, at $63.14 a barrel.
