Stocks Ended Mostly Higher, Dow Post Record Close

U.S. stocks ended mostly higher on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at new records, helped by a jump in Disney’s stock price. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 92.10 points, or 0.33%, to 27,783.59. The S&P 500 edged up 2.20 points, or 0.07%, to 3,094.04. The Nasdaq Composite slipped 3.99 points, or 0.05%, to 8,482.10.

Oil futures ended higher on Wednesday, with prices recouping most of the losses they suffered over the past two trading sessions. West Texas Intermediate crude for December delivery tacked on 32 cents, or 0.6%, to settle at $57.12 a barrel. January Brent added 31 cents, or 0.5%, to $62.37 a barrel.

Walt Disney Co. stock rose to a record on Wednesday and notched its biggest one-day gain in seven months after news its newly launched Disney+ had attracted millions of subscribers in one day.

Cisco (CSCO) reported fiscal first-quarter net income of $2.93 billion, or 68 cents a share, compared with $3.55 billion, or 77 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose to $13.16 billion from $13.07 billion in the year-ago quarter. The company expects adjusted fiscal second-quarter earnings of 75 cents to 77 cents a share on a 5% to 3% decline in year-over-year revenue.
