Stocks Opened Higher ahead of Earnings Week

U.S. stocks opened higher on Monday at the start of a packed week of corporate earnings results. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 19.46 points, or 0.07%, to 26,789.66. The S&P 500 advanced about 12.90 points, or 0.43%, to2,999.10. The Nasdaq Composite gained 44.27 points, or 0.55%, to 8,133.82.

Oil futures headed lower early Monday as investors failed to shake worries that growing signs of weakness will eventually hurt demand for crude oil. West Texas Intermediate crude for November delivery fell 21 cents, or 0.4%, to $53.66 a barrel. Brent crude for December lost 36 cents, or 0.6%, to trade at $59.06 a barrel.
