Stocks Mixed in Early Trading, Oil Prices Dropped

U.S. stocks were traded mixed in early trading on Monday after a report that Beijing is seeking more talks before signing a preliminary trade deal. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 10.29 points, or 0.04% to 26,826.88. The S&P 500 lost 2.48 points, or 0.08%, to 2,967.79. The Nasdaq Composite fell 8.30 points, or 0.10%, to 8,048.74.

Oil futures headed sharply lower on Monday, poised to give back much of their gains from last week. West Texas Intermediate crude for November delivery fell by $1.72, or 3.1%, to trade at $52.98 a barrel. December Brent crude lost $1.54, or 2.6%, to $58.97 a barrel.

China is looking to meet to work out more details of the “phase one” trade deal President Donald Trump presented late last week, Bloomberg reported Monday.
