Stocks Ended Mixed amid Positive Data, Rate Decisions

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Thursday, following better-than-expected housing and manufacturing data a day after the second interest rate cut of 2019 by the Federal Reserve. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 52.29 points, or 0.19%, to 27,094.79. The S&P 500 was up 0.06 point, to 3,006.79. The Nasdaq Composite gained 5.49 points, or 0.07%, to 8,182.88.

Oil futures rose Thursday, but U.S. prices gave up nearly all of their earlier gains by the settlement. West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery rose 2 cents to settle at $58.13 a barrel after tapping a high of $59.54. November Brent crude added 80 cents, or 1.3%, to end at $64.40 a barrel.
