Stocks Ended Lower ahead of Fed Decision

U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday as investors awaited monetary policy signals from the Federal Reserve later this week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 173.35 points, or 0.66%, to 25,962.44. The S&P 500 lost 23.14 points, or 0.79%, to 2,900.51. the Nasdaq Composite gave up 54.25 points, or 0.68%, to 7,948.56.

Oil prices ended lower on Tuesday. West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery tacked on 13 cents, or 0.2%, to finish at $56.34 a barrel. The October contract for global benchmark Brent crude edged 29 cents, or 0.5%, higher at $60.03 a barrel.

The 10-year Treasury note’s yield lost 4.6 basis points Tuesday to 1.557%, while the 2-year Treasury note yielded 1.515%, down 2.7 basis points.
