Stocks Ended Higher on Renewed Trade-talk Hope

U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday after President Donald Trump said he wanted U.S. and Chinese trade negotiators to move forward with talks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 269.93 points, or 1.05%, to 25,898.83. The S&P 500 climbed 31.27 points, or 1.10%, to 2,878.38. The Nasdaq Composite gained 101.97 points, or 1.32%, to 7,853.74.

Oil prices gave up earlier gains to finish lower on Monday, as traders weighed demand uncertainty in the wake of the latest news on the U.S.-China trade dispute. WTI crude for October delivery edged down by 53 cents, or 1%, to settle at $53.64 a barrel. October Brent crude fell by 64 cents, or 1.1%, to $58.70 a barrel.

Oracle Corp. (ORCL) plans another appeal in the imminent award of a massive federal government procurement its General Counsel Dorian Daley says was “unlawful on several grounds.” The $10 billion Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI), is expected to be awarded by the Defense Department in September.
