Stocks Opened Mixed ahead of Fed decision, Jobs Report and Tariff Talks

U.S. stocks opened mixed on Monday, with a Federal Reserve decision, jobs report and developments in China-U.S. tariff negotiations coming into focus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately advanced 37.95 points, or 0.14%, to 27,230.40. The S&P 500 was down 3.67 points, or 0.12%, to 3,022.19. The Nasdaq Composite fell 31.95 points, or 0.38%, to 8,298.26.

This week, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin are set to meet with their Chinese counterparts in Shanghai for a round of face-to-face trade talks.

Pfizer announced second-quarter earnings Monday that topped expectations, while sales of $13.27 billion fell slightly short of consensus estimates. Quarterly revenue results were headed by sales of cancer-treatment drug Ibrance, which rose 23% year-over-year.
