Stocks Opened Higher as Earnings Ramped Up

U.S. stocks opened slightly higher on Monday, as investors prepared for a barrage of earnings. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 26.91 points, or 0.10%, to 27,181.11. The S&P 500 advanced 6.69 points, or 0.22%, to 2,983.30. The Nasdaq Composite gained 49.64 points, or 0.61%, to 8,196.12.

Oil prices moved higher on Monday, as investors watched an increasingly complicated situation in the Persian Gulf after Iran late last week seized a British-flagged tanker as the U.K. faces a change in leadership. Texas Intermediate crude for August delivery rose 60 cents, or 1%, to $56.22 a barrel. Brent crude for September delivery added 79 cents, or 1.3%, to $63.26 a barrel.
