Stocks Ended Sharply Lower, Dow Dropped over 600 Points

U.S. stocks finished sharply lower on Monday as the U.S. and China escalated their longstanding trade spat. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 617.38 points, or 2.38%, to 25,324.99. The S&P 500 declined 69.53 points, or 2.41%, to 2,811.87. The Nasdaq Composite shed 269.92 points, or 3.41%, to 7,647.02.

Oil futures ended lower on Monday, as steep declines in the U.S. stock market fed an aversion to so-called riskier assets, which include oil. West Texas Intermediate crude for June delivery fell 62 cents, or 1%, to settle at $61.04 a barrel. July Brent crude lost 39 cents, or 0.6%, to $70.23 a barrel.
