Stocks Opened Lower amid Earnings

U.S. stocks opened sharply lower on Thursday, extending declines from Wednesday.The Dow Industrial Average lately declined 178.58 points, or 0.70%, to 25,211.72. The S&P 500 was down 21.08 points, or 0.77%, to 2,710.53. The Nasdaq Composite fell 72.94 points, or 0.99%, to 7,302.34.

Twitter (TWTR) shares declined Thursday morning after the social media company provided light revenue guidance for the current quarter.

Yum Brands (YUM) reported better-than-expected same-store results of 3% for the fiscal fourth quarter, ahead of consensus expectations of 2.5%.
