Stocks Opened Higher, Oil Prices Rose

U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday as U.S. and Chinese government officials meet in Beijing for the second day of trade negotiations. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately advanced 268.42 points, or 1.14%, to 23,799.77. The S&P 500 climbed 21.49 points, or 0.84%, to 2,571.18. The Nasdaq Composite rose 58.09 points, or 0.85%, to 6,881.56.

Oil futures Tuesday headed higher, poised for their seventh straight gain amid efforts to curb output and measured optimism around U.S.-China trade talks. West Texas Intermediate crude oil for February delivery rose 74 cents, or 1.5%, to trade at $49.26 a barrel. March Brent crude added 92 cents, or 1.6%, to $58.25 a barrel.
