Stocks Opened Higher on Trade Optimism

U.S. stocks opened higher on Friday, as investors hung on to optimism for U.S.-China trade progress. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately climbed 131.23 points, or 0.54%, to 24,501.33. The S&P 500 advanced 15.62 points, or 0.59%, to 2,651.58. The Nasdaq Composite gained 31.93 points, or 0.45%, to 7,116.39.

Oil futures moved higher on Friday, after a report that the U.S. could be ready to ease tariffs on China inspired investors to pick up perceived riskier assets such as commodities. West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery rose 66 cents, or 1.3%, to $52.73 a barrel. March Brent crude rose 69 cents, or 1.1%, to $61.87 a barrel.
