Stocks Ended Mixed ahead of Outcome of Fed Meeting

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Tuesday, as investors awaited the results of the Federal Reserve’s two-day meeting. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 51.74 points, or 0.21%, to 24,579.96. The S&P 500 was down 3.85 points, or 0.15%, to 2,640.00. The Nasdaq Composite fell 57.39 points, or 0.81%, to 7,028.29.

Oil prices finished higher on Tuesday, getting a boost in the wake of the U.S. Treasury’s decision to impose sanctions on Venezuela’s state-owned oil firm, Petróleos de Venezuela SA. West Texas Intermediate crude for March delivery added $1.32, or 2.5%, to settle at $53.31 a barrel. March Brent crude rose $1.39, or 2.3%, to $61.32 a barrel.
