Stocks Ended Lower, Oil Prices Fell

U.S. stocks ended lower on Monday, amid disappointing quarterly results from corporate bellwethers like Caterpillar Inc. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 208.98 points, or 0.84%, to 24,528.22. The S&P 500 slipped by 20.91 points, or 0.78%, to 2,643.85. The Nasdaq Composite declined 79.18 points, or 1.11%, to 7,085.68.

Oil prices fell Monday to finish at a two-week low, reflecting fresh concerns over supply, and the potential for a slowdown in energy demand from China. West Texas Intermediate crude for March delivery fell $1.70, or 3.2%, to settle at $51.99 a barrel. March Brent crude fell $1.71, or 2.8%, to $59.93 a barrel.
