Stocks Plunged at Market Open

U.S. stocks sank at the open on Tuesday, with all main stock-market gauges wiping out 2018 gains as tech shares get rocked. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately dropped 472.94 points, or 1.89%, to 24,544.50. The S&P 500 sank 46.66 points, or 1.73%, to 2,644.07. The Nasdaq Composite retreated 147.30 points, or 2.10%, to 6,881.17.

Oil prices dropped Tuesday with investor attention still fixed on supply and as the energy complex was swept up in another bout of “risk-off” jitters driving global markets sharply lower. January WTI crude traded down 39 cents, or 0.7%, at $56.78 a barrel. January Brent dropped 77 cents, or 1.2%, to $66.02 a barrel.
