Stocks Ended Sharply Lower, Oil Finished Higher

U.S. stocks ended sharply lower on Friday after disappointing earnings. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 296.24 points, or 1.19%, to 24,688.31. The S&P 500 fell 46.88 points, or 1.73%, to 2,658.69. The Nasdaq Composite sank 151.12 points, or 2.06%, to 7,167.21. For the week, the Dow was off 3%, the S&P 500 was down 3.9% and Nasdaq Composite fell 3.8%.

Oil futures reversed earlier losses on Friday to finish higher. West Texas Intermediate crude for December delivery rose 26 cents, or 0.4%, to settle at $67.59 a barrel. The U.S. benchmark saw a loss of roughly 2.4% for the week. December Brent crude added 73 cents, or nearly 1%, to $77.62 a barrel and lost 2.7% from a week ago.
