Stocks Ended Sharply Lower, Dow Dropped over 800 Points

U.S. stocks ended sharply lower on Wednesday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average sank more than 800 points and the S&P 500 had its worst day since February as technology stocks went into a freefall. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 831.83 points, or 3.15%, to 25,598.74. The S&P 500 lost 94.66 points, or 3.29%, to 2,785.68. The Nasdaq Composite fell 315.97 points, or 4.08%, to 7,422.05.

Crude-oil futures dropped Wednesday to settle at nearly two-week lows as traders played down the potential impact of Hurricane Michael on energy infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico. West Texas Intermediate crude for November delivery fell $1.79, or 2.4%, to settle at $73.17 a barrel. Brent crude for December delivery gave up $1.91, or nearly 2.3%, to $83.09 a barrel.
