Stock Ended Mostly Lower, Oil Closed Higher

U.S. stocks ended mostly lower on Friday as weak housing data overshadowed solid corporate earnings. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 64.89 points, or 0.26%, to 25,444.34. The S&P 500 edged down 1.00 point, or 0.04%, to 2,767.78. The Nasdaq Composite fell 36.11 points, or 0.48%, to 7,449.03. For the week, the Dow gained 0.4%, the S&P 500 rose fractionally, while the Nasdaq shed 0.6%.

Oil futures closed higher on Friday, with the global benchmark temporarily pushing back above $80 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate crude for November delivery rose 47 cents, or 0.7%, to $69.12 a barrel. For the week, it suffered a decline of 3.1%. December Brent crude finished 49 cents higher, a rise of 0.6%, at $79.78 a barrel. Brent ended the week down 0.8%.
