Stocks Ended Mixed, Dow and S&P 500 Closed Higher

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Wednesday as weakness in the technology sector capped more significant advances. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 27.86 points, or 0.11%, to 25,998.92. The S&P 500 added 1.03 points, or 0.04%, to 2,888.92. The Nasdaq Composite fell 18.25 points, or 0.23%, to 7,954.23.

Oil futures settled higher Wednesday, as a hefty decline in domestic crude supplies and uncertainty tied to the energy impact from Hurricane Florence combined to lift U.S. prices past $70 a barrel. October futures on West Texas Intermediate crude rose $1.12, or 1.6%, to settle at $70.37 a barrel. November Brent gained 68 cents, or 0.9%, to end $79.74 a barrel.

Apple (AAPL) unveiled a suite of new iPhones on Wednesday. The flagship model, the iPhone Xs, will cost $999. Another, larger model, the Xs Max, will cost $1,099. Apple will also unveil a “budget” phone for $749. They will be available in stores on September 21.
