Stocks Ended Higher as Tech, Energy Stocks Advanced

U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday as Apple Inc led a jump in technology shares and a gain of more than 2 percent in oil prices drove up energy shares. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 113.99 points, or 0.44%, to 25,971.06. The S&P 500 gained 10.76 points, or 0.37%, to 2,887.89. The Nasdaq Composite added 48.31 points, or 0.61%, to 7,972.47.

Crude-oil futures rallied Tuesday, as a major hurricane approaching the U.S. East Coast boosted demand for fuel and threatened the flow of gasoline through a key pipeline. October futures on West Texas Intermediate crude rose $1.71, or 2.5%, to $69.25 a barrel. November Brent crude added $1.69, or 2.2%, to $79.06 a barrel.
