Stocks Opened Slightly Higher

U.S. stocks opened slightly higher on Monday, but continuing turmoil in Turkey remained in focus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 56.62 points, or 0.22%, to 25,369.76. The S&P 500 added 7.21 points, or 0.25%, to 2,840.49. The Nasdaq Composite gained 30.96 points, or 0.39%, to 7,870.07.

VF Corp will spin off Lee and Wrangler jeans into an independent public company, the company said on Monday, seeking to focus more on profitable brands such as Vans sneakers and The North Face outdoor wear.

Activist investor Elliott Management Corp. has taken a big stake in Nielsen Holdings PLC and plans to push the TV-ratings company to sell itself. The New York hedge fund owns more than 8% of Nielsen, worth at least $640 million, people familiar with the matter said Sunday.
