Stocks Opened Higher on Trade talk Optimism

U.S. stocks opened higher on Monday on hopes that planned trade talks between the United States and China would help resolve the trade row between the world’s two largest economies. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately rose 86.43 points, or 0.34%, to 25,755.75. The S&P 500 added 3.54 points, or 0.12%, to 2,853.67. The Nasdaq Composite was down 14.40 points, or 0.18%, to 7,801.93.

Oil futures churned around the even mark on Monday after emerging-market and Chinese demand worries rippled through the market last week and handed oil prices their third weekly drop. West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery was down 16 cents, or 0.2%, at $65.75 a barrel. October Brent crude rose 13 cents, or 0.1%, to $71.96 a barrel.

PepsiCo will buy carbonated drink-machine maker SodaStream for $3.2 billion as it battles Coca-Cola for an edge in the health-conscious beverage market.
